Sprinkle Birthday Number

Sprinkle Birthday Number

Whether you’re turning 8 or 80, you totally NEED this sprinkle number at your next birthday party! It’s such a quick and easy way to decorate a birthday table and it’s an absolute showstopper!! I made this for  Ellie’s Amazing Ice Cream Party in July and her eyes just lit up when she saw it. I mean who doesn’t love sprinkles??? I know I sure do! I would put them on everything if I could. (Yes, I’m a 34 year old adult. Don’t judge!) The best part is you can use any kind of sprinkles that you like and match this with virtually any party theme so you can make it again and again and achieve a completely different look. How awesome is that?!? Well, what are you waiting for??? Someone’s out there turning 5….or 35…..or 75…..and they want this!! They just don’t know it yet!!!

Here’s all you’ll need: A cardboard number, mod lodge, acrylic paint (all found at your local craft store), and sprinkles!!

Paint both sides of the number in the color of your choice and allow it to dry completely. I used two coats of paint to make sure I didn’t miss any spots. The cardboard really sucks up the paint. I used a foam brush that I had unhand to apply.

Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil (or wax paper, or parchment, whatever you have on hand is fine). Cover with lots of sprinkles!! Make sure there are no holes or empty spaces.

Dab a thick layer of Mod Podge onto one side of the number. I reused my foam brush for this step.

Make sure you cover it all! It should be nice and sticky to hold all those sprinkles.

Place the number face down in the sprinkle pile. It’s like a belly flop right into a pool of sprinkles!! Gently push it down so they all stick. I waited about 30 seconds to give it a little time for the glue to firm up. I’m telling you that 30 seconds was killing me!! I was dying to see what it looked like.

Next flip it over and add more sprinkles to any of the the blank spaces that might have gotten missed. I just sprinkled more sprinkles on top to cover. You can add more Mod Podge if you need to, but do it carefully. We don’t want to mess up the sprinkles that are already stuck.

Allow this to dry completely. I probably waited about another half hour before I touched it again. Good thing I had PLENTY of other party favors to make to keep me busy! Pick it up and all the excess sprinkles will fall onto your cookie sheet. Crumble up the foil and throw it away. No mess! I absolutely LOVE how this turned out!!
